Can’t ingest Olympus PEN E-P3 AVCHD .MTS files in iMovie/Avid Media Composer - Solution

To get iMovie and Avid Media Composer working perfectly with Olympus PEN E-P3 AVCHD .mts files, a best way is to convert AVCHD video to AIC MOV, Avid DNxHD MOV, something ensuring best results when using .mts files in iMovie/Avid MC. Read on to learn details.

The E-P3 is the latest Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus which offers a 12.3-megapixel High Speed Live MOS sensor, 610K dot OLED touch-screen, a pop-up flash and external flash hot-shoe, sensitivity settings of ISO 200-12800, 1080i/60fps high-definition AVCHD/AVI video recording with stereo sound.

And now your files will be converted into AIC or DNxHD .MOV files ready to be imported to iMovie or Avid Media Composer. You're done.

Additional Tips:
If you want to edit Olympus PEN E-P3 MTS clips in Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7/6, you just need to choose the "Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)" as output format in the scond step; For Adobe Premiere Pro, choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as output.
